I remember the day I turned eight.
How can this be?

Bastien

I would like to introduce you to Bastien...

This past week as Eoghan and I were drawing and using watercolors, he happened to step out of my pen. And as I painted him, he told me a few things...
He said that his favorite color in the whole world was orange, and so I gave him a stripey shirt that he promised to get extremely muddy. He whispered to me as he is quite shy, that he loved the taste of chunky lime popsicles, the smell of the sea, the way the snow looks as it falls verrrry slowly to the earth, the smooth feel of worn sandals on his toes, sand in his hair, the underside of his granny's arm between his fingers, the smell of sap on the barks of pine trees, a soft warm scarf wrapped around his neck, and to feel the wind burn his cheeks.
I asked if he would keep me company, and thankfully he agreed.

a sunny Spring

Happy Spring!

I am hoping that today, is a promise, of what our Spring will continue to be. It is a beautiful sight to see water dripping everywhere, to feel a cool breeze on one's face, and to be wrapped by our sun in a warm embrace.

Our weather tree, with all of its Autumn and Winter leaves (white=snow, blue=rain, brown=cloudy, yellow=sun), and its lone Spring leaf.

dishes

I hem and haw when it comes time to do the dishes, thinking to myself, "do them now and you will feel much better when you wake up in the morning to an empty sink".

Yet, when I do put my hands into the warm soapy water, I get so relaxed and it is quite lovely to let my mind wander off to other realms...

but then again...it is nice to have someone else do them for you,

especially a little one who is always sooooo willing to help
the minute the kitchen faucet comes on.

five little things

Five little things I love about you.

The way you start every morning, as if it were the first day to ever be, and thus making it so for everyone around you as well.

Your sensitivity towards all, even the most seemingly unnoticeable.

The way you gallop on all fours.

Your incredible ability to forgive.

The way you can be extremely happy, just by blowing bubbles.

Thank you Eoghan.

home

Eoghan and I have been reading books about home, and the many meanings this word has for people. The following were our favorites.

A sweet imaginary town for some siblings and their friends.
It made Eoghan and I both want to go and gather friends, to build a town of our own.

Granny's and Grandpa's home is soooo comforting.

A neighborhood grows and blossoms,
just as the baby girl who is born into it.
A great Earth Day book.

on a Monday night

On most Monday nights, I say goodbye to my boys for a couple of hours and wander off to one of my favorite places to be. What can I compare it to? Well...it's like being surrounded by friends, hearing the light clinking of a hot teapot to cups, and having knitting in ones hands. Yes, that's it exactly.

If you are not familiar with Tasha Tudor and her work, you should take a peek at her site: http://www.tashatudorandfamily.com/ You can find the recipe for these yummy cookies there as well. The site was pointed out to me by my good friend Dotty, who is the owner of the sweetest and best handwork shop I know of. Thank you Dotty, I just wish you could have been there to taste and knit. I miss you very much.

Dearest Dotty, I just wanted you to know how very much it means to me when I come to your home.
